RTSS False Favorite Report, Sunday, July 7, 2024

We continued our accuracy in stakes races for 3-year-olds, with a winner and a near-miss second-place effort in the two races yesterday. We now claim 6 winners in the past 9 stakes races for that age group.

BELMONT AT AQUEDUCT

RACE 1. Claiming $20,000. 7 Furlongs. Dirt.

False Favorite: #2 Tempermental (8-5).

Reason: He has failed to win while favored in 5 of his past 6 races. That streak included a drop out of state-bred allowance races to a state-bred $25,000 claimer.

In addition to those shortcomings, this runner is 0 for 5 at the distance and has lost ground in the stretch in the 4 races on his chart beyond 6 furlongs.

Top Contenders

  • #3 Awesome Annmarie (7-2, 86)
  • #5 Halo City (4-1, 86)

RACE 6. State-Bred Maiden Special Weights. 6 Furlongs. Turf (Analysis for turf only).

False Favorite: #2 McDiesel (7-2).

Reason: We take our usual stand here against a horse favored upon debut. The workouts are impressive, but trainer Rudy Rodriguez is 0 for 19 with horses debuting on grass.

Top Contenders

  • #8 Richard Avenue (4-1)
  • #5 Orie (8-1)

WOODBINE

RACE 6. Maiden Special Weights. 7 Furlongs. All Weather.

False Favorite: #9 Genius of Love (5-2).

Reason: She owns a modest (weak?) pedigree and lacks early speed. She also loses her rider to #8 Ontario.

Top Contenders

  • #1 Town’s a Breeze (10-1)
  • #8 Ontario (4-1)
